Aims of the Football Academy

The ‘Balmoral Football Academy’ will provide students with opportunities to follow their passion and develop their football ability to be the best that they can be, as well as providing opportunities to progress to the ‘elite’ level and a pathway to professionalism. To achieve this we will provide quality coaching and targeted support for balancing academic, sporting and career goals.

How the Academy works

The ‘Balmoral Football Academy’, will be conducted as a school subject under the umbrella of Health and Physical Education. While addressing general health and personal development outcomes, the football curriculum also focuses on specific ‘Football’ related elements such as Nutrition for Football, Growth Mindset, Sports Physiology, Overtraining, Fitness Principles, Injury Prevention and Management, Goal setting, Careers in sport (specifically Football), Match Analysis, Coaching Accreditation and Licences, and Refereeing.

Students will trial to be accepted into the Football Academy by demonstrating the required levels of footballing ability across the three criteria, which are; ‘Game Awareness’, ‘Technical/Tactical’ and ‘Football Conditioning’ including Goalkeeping for the students who wish to pursue that position. All of the 3 key areas will be developed over the six year course and are linked closely to the ‘Building Block’ phases of Football Federation Australia’s (FFA) National Curriculum. The football focus for each year is:

  • Year 7 and 8 “Skills Acquisition” to “Game Training” phase
  • Year 9 and 10 “Game Training” with a continuation of the “Skills Acquisition” phase
  • Year 11 and 12 “Performance/Competition” with a continuation of the “Game Training” phase

In order to ensure that all players have the best opportunity to consistently perform at their best the Academy provides support in a number of areas including academic assistance, speed, core strength and conditioning, individualised skill program, goalkeeper coaching and on site physiotherapy assessment including injury prevention and rehabilitation.
