Balmoral Netball Academy
The Balmoral SHS Netball Academy welcomes students to a Netball community, in which they are encouraged to pursue their passion and enhance their physical skills and fundamental Netball skills, and reach their highest performance capabilities. The Academy has a strong focus on developing leaders, as well as confident adolescents on and off the court, to enable them to select a range of future pathways. To be successful, students will be provided quality and supportive coaching for balancing academic, sporting and career goals.
The Netball Academy, allows students the opportunity to participate in quarterly Super 7's Competitions, competing against schools in the Greater Brisbane region, as well as the opportunity to trial and be selected in higher level competitions, which include the Vicki Wilson Cup.
Through a partnership with PEAK Physiotherapy, the Netball Academy students are able to build on Strength and Conditioning in Netball, working closely with Katie Muscat to enhance movement patterns in Netball.
Offered under the Health and Physical Education Curriculum, the Netball subject aligns with the Health and Personal Development standards, with the physical performance criteria meeting the Netball Australian performance standards. The Netball Academy strives to build athletes who have transferable physical skills and a strong technical and tactical ability in Netball. Years 7, 8, 9, 10 Netball Academy subject is offered as three lessons a week, where students explore the following theoretical units:
Year 7 Netball Academy:
- Building our Netball Brain: Adolescence & Development
- Athlete Welfare: Health & Well-being & Preparation for Competitions
Year 8 Netball Academy:
- Sports Psychology- Team Dynamics & Goal setting for Competitions
- Bringing the Netball smarts (on and off the court) Alcohol/Drugs and decision making
- Careers & Volunteers in Netball: Introduction to Umpiring
Year 9 Netball Academy
- Female athletes & Adolescent well-being
- Careers & Volunteers in sport- Netball Officiating
- Games Analysis: Court structure
- Equity & Fair Play in Netball
Year 10 Netball Academy
- Exercise Physiology: Strength & Conditioning in Netball
- Exercise Physiology: Netball Coaching (Movement sequences, strategies & Concepts)
- Invasion Games: Constraints-Led approach
Year 11 & 12 Netball Academy
- FitEducation: Certificate III in Fitness: Anatomy & Physiology, Health Screening and Fitness assessment, Healthy Eating, Exercise Prescription, Training Children, Group Exercise, First Aid & CPR, Equipment Maintenance
- Certificate II in Sports Coaching: Fundamental Motor skills, Planning and Delivering Coaching sessions, workplace health and safety emergencies, First Aid Certificate
