More than 20 years of authentic, industry-connected learning
For more than two decades, Balmoral State High School has proudly partnered with Boeing Australia to provide students with an extraordinary opportunity to take their learning beyond the classroom.
Open to high-achieving students in Years 8–12, the Boeing Excellence Program brings together critical and creative thinkers, researchers, writers, designers, communicators and emerging leaders. Each year, students are presented with a complex, real-world challenge inspired by the work of Boeing.
Working in multidisciplinary teams for one dedicated lesson each week, students progress through research, ideation, design and refinement. They evaluate competing priorities, test assumptions and combine their individual strengths to develop a solution that is both innovative and achievable.
Recent challenges have explored defence logistics and humanitarian support. In 2025, students investigated how the MQ-28 Ghost Bat could help deliver food, water and essential supplies to communities in need. The task required them to consider technical performance, geography, resources, ethics and human impact.
Guidance from Boeing professionals gives the program an authenticity rarely available in a school setting. Students gain insight into industry expectations and discover how classroom skills are applied across aerospace, engineering, technology, defence, project management and business.
The program culminates in a formal presentation to Boeing executives at Boeing House. Students must communicate their research, justify their design decisions and confidently defend their proposed solution.
Beyond the final presentation, participants develop valuable skills in research, problem-solving, teamwork, time management and public speaking. The program helps students explore future careers while building transferable capabilities that will support them in almost any pathway.
Balmoral’s longstanding partnership with Boeing is a powerful example of authentic, industry-connected education—empowering students to become confident researchers, designers, strategists and innovators.
